christmas wallpaper

Last week got crazy ... to say the least. Hence no wallpaper, as promised.

However, I made some time to make one for these last few days.

Merriest Christmas (if you celebrate) and Happiest Friday (if you don't).

Have a Cup of Cheer

christmas wallpaper

I decided I'd make one wallpaper a week during this month. Here's what I came up with this week. Hope you enjoy!

P.S How cute is that Christmas sweater ornament from Pottery Barn?

What's Your Favorite Color?

There's two movies that make me all jolly, Home Alone and Elf. Credit where it's due, I believe it was my brother, who's two years younger, that introduced me to Kevin McCallister's shenanigans. Through our childhood we burned through numerous VHS tapes and in adulthood I've gone through two DVD's.. It's just perfect all year round, if you ask me. Now, Elf I was able to watch in theaters and it's the only (other) holiday movie that has been able to share a spot with Home Alone. I find most too cheesy and rolling my eyes so much to the point where I'm afraid for my health.... but these two... Literal LOL's, always!

After tinkering in Photoshop CC for a bit, I came up with something I liked.. to honor my favorite Buddy.

I've also added the calendar to yesterdays (scroll down) extra wallpaper. < download >

christmas wallpaper

We've made it to the last month of 2015! I feel like a grinch saying this.. but as lovely as all the decorations the holidays are.. I can't stand most of them. I have a thing against red and for the most part (cute christmas leggings are the exception) I will avoid it. It's sort of harder around Christmas. So this months calendar comes in a vibrant shade of pink! In the spirit and all that, I've included a macbook sized one and... a brand new car!!! an extra tree patterned one.

Inspiring Sunset

November 11, 2015

There were a couple of rainy moments here and there, last week. California is in a drought so showers are very welcomed! As usual, after some rain, the sky was wonderful shades of pink and purple and demanded to be photographed!

This is an unfiltered shot from one of those nights! -- (shot with iPhone 6s plus) -- Mesmerizing, isn't it?

I edited some and ended up resizing them as wallpapers! You can find four, including simple gradients, in  < this > Dropbox folder.

You can find an iPhone 6 and 6 plus size of the above picture on The TEKSide (here) where I now contribute with weekly wallpapers!

November Calendar

November 2, 2015

I found a couple of memory cards from last year and they turned out to be extra pictures of previous blog posts. Amongst those was this gem (used for this months calendar) which I never used because I didn't really like the tones... After editing and re-editing the image for a couple of days, I settled on one that was up to my liking.

In the process I made that middle one as a backup but ended up using it on my home screen... I've also uploaded it. Enjoy!

Second Happiest Place on Earth

October 26, 2015

... At least for me. Like I've mentioned in previous posts, there's just something completely relaxing about the beach. It reminds me of this → "I love places that make you realize how small you and your problems are." ← When things get a tiny bit crazy, an impromptu beach trip is the answer. It does wonders and it's free!

And these views demand be photographed! Actually, on my drive there, I heard on the radio that a hammer head had been spotted near the pier (yes, that same one pictured) and shark watch was ON! Scary for swimmers but just as scary for sharks. It is their home after all... Either way, no, I did not see any sharks and there were plenty of swimmers and surfers in the water.

The iPhone (6s Plus) Camera

October 9, 2015

I love taking pictures. No real shocker there.

The thing I look forward to with every iPhone release is the camera specs. At this point the iPhone has replaced DSLR for me. I'm still shopping around for a new one but with the iPhone 6s Plus I'm in no real hurry.

The newest lineup has a 12MP camera and a bunch of other specifications that I don't know what they mean but sound nice. I haven't really played around with the 4K video or Live Photos (accidental ones don't count) because I'm too busy being impressed with the camera! I noticed there's less noise, the colors are richer and brighter. I actually have to spend more time decreasing the effect of filters because the pictures are bright and balanced as is.

I have a couple of friends who don't know better and have Android devices and what I notice from their images is that their Android pictures were slightly warmer and more saturated, which is good in some scenarios but it tends to look unnatural. Especially for those of us who edit pictures like its our job. Like, no, let me control that! I don't have any Android knowledge so it's not a "iPhone is better" thing but it is, it's just what I've noticed.

(But remember, it's been labeled iphoneography. =P)

Unlike before, there's no real need to adjust brightness/ contrast / saturation and all that. Yes, natural light and angles always do a subject favors but the iPhone (6s+) camera makes it so easy.

Nighttime and bright light! Even post edit, there's very little noise.

I always get asked what and how I edit my Instagram pictures. Like I mentioned, I adjust (either or a couple) brightness / saturation / temperature / contrast if needed and then lightly apply a filter that I feel brings out the subject or colors. I tend to rotate between, VSCOcam, Mextures and Enlight. Recently though, I've used the filters and editing tools within the Instagram app. They've really stepped it up and there's a couple of things that even my trio of choice don't have.

This is obviously not an in-depth review, there's so many out there right now and can (actually) be helpful if you're deliberating whether to upgrade or not. This is my personal opinion and preference.
But coming from the 6 Plus, I think it's worth the upgrade.

Like mentioned in the previous post, I have a Flickr album dedicated to pictures taken with the 6s Plus. Instagram still compresses images (although not as bad as before) but you can see them in their full glory on my Flickr and the others I don't post there or here. ❤︎

October Calendar + iPhone 6s Plus

October 1, 2015

rifle paper co

It is that time again.
What seems to be everyone's (including myself) favorite season is upon us.

This past Summer was a crazy one for me and I didn't get to post enough (in this space) as much as I would like. Hopefully with the "better" season (I'd say weather but, it's California, lets be real) I can get back in the hang of things.

Almost two weeks ago the S version of the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus were released. Of course I got mine. I no longer fool myself into believing I can wait the two years and it's not that big of a difference blah blah blah...  I WANT.
I choose the 6s Plus (can't go back to small!) in the Rose Gold option. My initial choice before the event was the Space Gray but upon seeing the pink I knew I needed. I feared it'd be too pink and I'd end up hating it because there's days when your mood is blacker than Space Gray and you don't need a bright pink phone mocking you. Luckily, it's much lighter than the stock photos and I quite like that about it.
The main reason why I wanted it was for the camera. The first big upgrade in a while and that 4K video. Sure, I've (mainly) only used it on my cats but I took some pictures of a fountain at night and WOW... Good job Apple.

I've created a new folder in my Flickr account just for pictures taken (and edited) with the 6s Plus.

The new iPhone announcement introduced a new version (and colors) of their silicone cases. Their silicone cases are some of my favorite. They're slim, have a nice grip and super easy to wipe clean. I couldn't decide so I got all three colors I was contemplating. Lavender, Orange and Turquoise. They all look great with the Rose Gold. No complaints here.

... And for the main event: October's calendar!

October is my favorite month. You can watch Hocus Pocus as many times as you want without being judged and usually ABCFamily encourages you with nightly showings. There's all the pumpkins (not artificially flavored stuff, actual pumpkins) and, if California is lucky, cooler weather.

So of course I put a little more work in this months calendar. I sketched these guys without an actual purpose or idea and this is how it came together. Quite happy with it.

September Calendar

September 1, 2015

For September I wanted a darker wallpaper. My favorites will always be the white ones because I prefer the black clock... but for the sake of mixing it up a bit.

I didn't want just black, that's so blah. I played around with this picture I took of my Dads garden earlier this summer and this is the final result. ❤︎

August Calendar

August 2, 2015

A day late but here we are!

Now, if you follow me on Instagram or see my wonderful banner on my Twitter then my Disney love comes as no surprise. What is new is an addiction to the adorableness that is the Tsum Tsum game (free). My lovely friends, Bunnie + Kay, got me to download it and it's been my most opened app since!

image from Google

The game is just a connect 3+  puzzle with coins as incentives which allow you to get more characters. It's a pretty common concept but Disney's cuteness and the NEED for those premium (a bundle of your soul in coins) characters keep you at it!

So,  Bunnie had a great idea for this months calendar: one that matches the (below) phone case. Brilliant! That pattern is no where to be found so I made one from Tsum Tsum's that I like and would trade my first born for.

The case is from eBay, a quick search will generate dozens of results. The calendar and notepad are from Rifle Paper Co.. as always.

These pocket notebooks are also from Rifle Paper Co.

I also found *this* image on Pinterest, which makes for a nice wallpaper as well. I've made a version without the calendar *preview* if you care just for the background.

The Wedge

July 1, 2015

My favorite place to be at is the beach. The sounds, smells, breeze.. ahh..

My favorite beach would have to be this one. Perfectly named The Wedge. It's in a corner hidden behind houses and unless you know the area well or drive to the end of the road lost (like I did when I found it lol) you miss it. Everyone stick to the main area which are the piers. Which I love just as much but there's something about less crowds and more rocks.

Last week I took a last minute trip to clear my head and fill my tummy with gelato. Obviously I ended here. Of course there is no trip without taking lots of pictures! ^_~

This beauty happens to be around the dock and every edit I did took away from the wonderful shades of blues. I decided to leave it as is, unedited.

I was standing/sitting on those rocks. After this shot I proceeded to get the heck out of there because the waves were getting too friendly for my taste and way too close to my feet. Mainly because I didn't want to lose my phone to the ocean. The shoes? Take 'em! My phone? Heck no!

Always look up!

With your mouth closed.. just in case.

July Calendar

July is here!

Which means it's time for your monthly calendar.

This is it! -- I had pulled (from Dropbox) some pictures I wanted to use and as I kept scrolling I saw this, which I took last Fall, and thought it'd be perfect for an American July. I'm also including the picture without the calendar for those who rather a simpler screen.

June iPhone Backgrounds

June 8, 2015

A week or two ago I had some requests for wallpapers from some of my pictures. It took me a while to get around to resizing and editing (sorry, ladies) and I also wanted to add a couple extras so it wouldn't be just two lonely pictures.

Also, at this point I couldn't be more in love with my iPhone (6 Plus), these are all iPhone pictures! If you're still on the fence, go for the Plus!

June Calendar

June 1, 2015

Yesterday was an impromptu beach day.  It was 84F and oh so hot but once we got there it had turned somewhat gloomy, which did end up making some beautiful pictures.

Newport Beach

Newport Beach

None of the above pictures are edited! Straight from my iPhone! Now, I usually don't mind getting in and letting the waves massage my back a bit but I just finished Planet Earth (on Netflix) and lets just stick to pools for a bit. ^_~

The beach will always be one of my favorite places! -- I made the above picture and the all ocean one into a wallpaper as well, you can find all of them including the June calendar in the link below. ❤︎

Sephora Haul

May 29, 2015

Rifle Paper Co

My favorite polishes (at the moment) are the Nails Inc. NailKale, they last a really long time and they have the best brush. I decided to get a couple of more and found them all out of stock. I signed up for email notification for next stock but last weekend I decided to check the Sephora website. They were in stock. No, I never received said email. lol Well, as most online shopping goes, I ended up adding stuff from my wishlist into my cart. Here it all is.

First, the makeup bag. We're all aware of how obsessed I am with Rifle Paper Co, so this should be no surprise. Their most recent collaboration is with LeSportsac. I've never liked anything from that brand...until now(sort of). This is the only thing I really liked from the entire collection. It's bigger than a hardback and it's perfect if you carry a tote.

Love the pockets inside!

NailKale in Forest Green and Holland Walk  **Not pictured: my green fingers due to trying to take the drop picture and getting it on the bottle instead of in, me trying to wipe it with my fingers and still trying to hold on to my camera. good times.

In April's PetitVour box I received a tinted sunscreen and loved it! I already have some sunscreen and wanted to try adding some of these Cover FX drops, which I've seen all over in the beauty world, and create my own. I've seen so many way to use it, whether on their own, on moisturizers/sunscreens. Quite excited for this one!

I believe sometime at the beginning of the year  I ordered something from Sephora and received two samples of this. It's so gentle, moisturizing and my hair feels like feathers. I've been using their Night Cap Overnight Perfector and I have only praises. They smell so good but leave your hair so soft and light.

I'm running low on my current primer, The POREfessional from Benefit, there's nothing I don't like about it. It works wonderful but I do like trying new things and switching it up. Thankfully my face is a team player and rolls with it well. Enter Tarte Timeless Smoothing Primer. It has great reviews and some even like it better than the POREfessional. We'll see.

Q: How many palettes is too many?
A: The limit does not exist.

This purchase is because of a gorgeous friend of mine who wore Chocolate Cookie and I couldn't stop staring. She then went on a mini rant as to why this particular palette was her favorite. So here we are. First thing I noticed is how the most used shadows are bigger. Plus!

I was looking for a translucent finishing powder and my fellow Sephora shoppers like this, one a lot!

The only other thing from Kat Von D's line that I haven't tried and has been on my wishlist for a while. I really like the tip! TWSS

I hit the mark for VIB Rouge for 2016 and it comes with this gorgeous little lipstick by Marc Jacobs.

I have like 1800 points. Not because I don't want to spend them but because nothing really calls to me. I decided to spend some on this travel size, for my purse, White Nirvana. If you saw my last two Sephora hauls you'll see I have the larger Black and White sizes. I really love these scents. Classy, feminine and subtle.

Now, go add things to your Sephora cart! ^_~
